le petit théâtre

Last year Christian Dior began touring an exhibition inspired by Théâtre de la Mode, a 1945–1946 touring exhibit of fashion mannequins. Like this exhibition, Dior created 1/3 the size, perfectly hand crafted reproductions of some of their most iconic designs named, Le Petit Théâtre.

Each design was created with as much care an attention as the original couture gowns, each sequin and bead hand sewn. And produced in Dior Couture’s Atelier de Fleurs Lemarie in Paris (flowers and feathers workshop, each flower is hand cut using brass cutters and shaped to perfection to form pint sized gowns, suits and dresses such as the Miss Dior Dress from 1949. Dior even released videos of the process, as part of the exhibition teaser campaign. And just think, if this is how much effort goes into one small gown, imagine the time on it's full scale original? It's no wonder these gowns cost what they do.

But the whole thing makes my heart happy. It's amazing. All that intricacy and attention to detail on something so small. I would kill to make something this beautiful.
