Dulux Colour of the Year 2014: Teal II

Teal Trivia! The first recorded use of teal as a colour name was in 1917 and it is believed to have been named after the muted blue-green feathers that surround the eye of the dabbling-duck known as the Common Teal.

So the colour has only been known as Teal for ninety-seven years. It's practically a baby. It will also be known dabbling-duck in my head now. And so you know, a dabbling-duck is a duck who feels mostly from the surface of the water rather than diving.

Now, we have the traditional nail polish, which you know I can't resist; heels and a dress; makeup and a mug; comfy, comfy sneakers, that have a double tongue which I've never understood, but are my comfiest pair and heels I may well be able to walk in and there's also a ring which is a planter and my new glasses, which I admit are very, very borderline teal, but after seeing some interpretations of the colour, I'd count them, though I am biased.

So here they are, my Dulux Colour of the Year 2014 list of teal toned treats:

1. Bleach Super Cool Colours in Sea Punk from Bleach London | Link
2. Color Show Nail Polish in Superpower Blue  from Maybelline | Link
3. Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Electric from Stila Cosmetics | Link
4. Kebaya Mug in Turquoise from Anthropologie | Link
5. Pepe Jeans 'Avery' aka my new glasses from Clelland and Boyd Opticians| Link
6. Teal Blue Origami Paper Cranes Ladies Scarf by Talented Apple on Etsy | Link
7. Zodiac Glitter in Cancer from Lime Crime | Link
8. Wearable Planter Icosahedron Ring in Teal by Wearable Planter on Etsy | Link
9. Teal Polka Dot Classic Satchel from Mozzypop | Link
10. Converse Allstar Low Double Tongue Mrrcn Blwt Smu from Office | Link
11. Editor Teal Heel by Not Rated from Heels.com | Link
12. Pigment in Teal from MAC | Link
13.Globe 10" in Green by Found by Fab | Link
14. Daymee Dress in Teal from Coast | Link

The fact that dabbling-duck wavers between green and blue makes it a relatively easy colour both to find and wear. You just pick the tone that suits you, or at least that's the story I'm sticking too since my collection does wander kind of carelessly through the spectrum.

You can be daring and relatively bright or safe, neutral and muted, but either way, it's a good colour and would look particularly nice with bright blue pinks, corals (which is the complimentary colour of choice) or even with a bit of Radiant Orchid.

Lucky that!

Pantone Colour of the Year 2014: Radiant Orchid II

See, this is the fun part of the Pantone Colour of the Year post, finding loads of lovely bits and bobs which are approximately that colour. Radiant Orchid was actually a hard one to find matches for, because it's neither a very blue purple or a very pink purple, it's also strangely bright and muted at the same time. But I have done my best to find fourteen lovely items which are approximately the right colour and I love, to the point where, I have worn no.1 and when no.4 came into work, I was seriously considering them as my new set of specs, plus I spent a lot of my time at uni with part of my hair dyed with no.6 as well as other colours (but this is definitely the closest to Radiant Orchid).

See, I even have tried and tested colour match ideas for you! The rest I will just lust after from now on...

1. Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Fishnet from Urban Decay | Link
2. Devonshire Row Nail Polish from Nails Inc | Link
3. Hearthstone Scarf in Purple from J. Crew | Link
4. Pepe Jeans 'Eleanor' Glasses from work | Pepe Jeans Wesbite
5. Moleskin Coloured Professional Notebook in Pink from Moleskin | Link
6. Manic Panic Semi-Permanent Hair Dye in Mystic Heather from Manic Panic | Link
7. Closet Purple Printed Band Hem Skater Dress from New Look | Link
8. Lime Crime Zodiac Glitter in Libra from Lime Crime| Link
9. Converse Ct Lite Ox in Iris Orchid from Office | Link
10. Slight Seconds Leather Boho Pop Mini in Ultra Violet from Bohemia | Link
11. Jessica Simpson Given Jazzberry Suede Heels via Heels.com | Link
12. Konstsmide 80 LED Berry Lights in Purple from Amazon | Link
13. Satin Shelley Tea Cup and Saucer in Purple from Coastline Imports | Link
14. Lime Crime Eyeliner in Orchidaceous from Lime Crime| Link

After finding all these bits and bobs, to be truthful, I'm actually a little sad about this colour. I genuinely don't think it will suit my skintone (though it will suit both my sisters), so any Radiant Orchid in my life will be in accessory form alone. Perhaps a nice nail polish...

Dulux Colour of the Year: Indigo Night

Please forgive the two sets of blue suede shoes, I could resist and I'm ashamed to say that I bumped a set of royal blue Converse Ox Lite's for them. I'll go and hang my head in that corner over there...

1) Benefit BAD gal Mascara in Blue - I went through a year or two were I wore nothing but blue mascara, is it sad that I'm enjoying its catwalk return? | Link
2) Karen Millen Dress with Floral Embroidery from ASOS - a little old fashioned, but I'm completely in love! | Link
83) Barry M Dazzle Dust in DD98 Petrol Black - my favourite eyeshadow! It's the one I wear if I'm dressing up and want to look fancy or make my eyes look über green. It's a perfect mix of dark blue black base and peacock/purple sheen...it's just beautiful! | Link
4) Tennyson (Blue Tortoiseshell Glasses) by Paul Smith | Link
5) Scalloped Front Tab Across Body Bag in blue from ASOS - *quietly places in shopping basket*| Link
6) Christian Louboutin Rolando in Navy | Link
7) Blue Stamp Cufflinks by Clare Hillerby - when I started jewellery at uni, she was (and still is) a complete idol. I fell in love with her jewellery because it's subtle and elegant and beautiful...she has her own style, which is something I still haven't found | Link | Clare Hillerby
8) Original 1227 Table Light by Anglepoise | Link
9) Blue Pocket Postal Notebook by Moleskin | Link
10) Blue Adjustable Flower Earrings by Gulnur Ozdaglar - these are made of recycled plastic. Her jewellery is spectacular | Link | Gulnur Ozdaglar
11) Anthropologie Spot of Tea Mug | Link
12) Suede Wood Platforms in Navy from Kling | Link
13) Gosh Limited Edition Nail Varnish in Tilted Blue - I almost bought this last week, I'm avoiding wearing nail varnish while buying tonnes of it! My depression buying has always been makeup based and right now that obsessive purchasing is of nail varnish. | Link

So there are thirteen lovely lovely Indigo Night inspired bits and bobs. I want them all!

Enjoy!

Pantone Colour of the Year: Emerald

So for the Monday Moodboard last week - which returned after a long absence -  not only do you get some lovely shade related photos but this week you get thirteen emerald(ish) coloured treats for 2013's colour.

Again, I don't think Pantone could have picked a nicer colour and everything on this, I genuinely like and would like in my life...at least the few I could afford.

1) Ciate Creme Nail Polish in Ditch The Heels | Link
2) Faceted Wooden Earrings in Turquoise by Anthe-Stolz from DaWanda | Link
3) Andy Spectacles from Selima Optique | Link
4) Zoya Nail Polish in Ivanka | Link
5) Gosh Velvet Touch Eyeliner in Woody Green - this is one of my favourite eyeliners, they're really soft and easy to apply, they're also packed with pigment and last ages! Only downside is they slide a bit, so use a primer! | Image Link
6) Emerald Christian Louboutin Pumps via Pinterest | Link
7) Vintage Clock London Emerald Green via Design Atelier Article (Etsy) | Link
8) Moleskin Notebook in Oxide Green - Pantone do do a specifically Emerald notepad, but I'm sorry, a moleskin just can't be beat! | Link
9) Alexander McQueen Flower Lace Strapless in Green (Emerald) via Lyst | Link
10) Green Polka Dot Scarf from Wanelo | Link
11) Barry M Dazzle Dust in 73 Emerald - this was the first eyeshadow I bought when I left school and broke away from my 'safe Emily' makeup. The blue mascara years may have been a mistake but the pink hair never will be. Barry M Dazzle Dusts have been a staple of my makeup bag since then, they're very highly pigmented and worth the money...unless they explode in your bag and go over your brand new bright yellow sneakers! Grrr... | ImageLink
12) Jasper Conran  for Wedgwood Chinoiserie Green Teacup from John Lewis | Image | Link
13) Vintage Emerald Earrings (14kt Yellow Gold and White Gold) from Cynthia Findlay Antiques | Image | Link

I could so easily go full out green from that list and I just hope that the fashion world picks up on Pantone's prediction, as Emerald really is a beautiful jewel tone and I'm bored of muted colours and neons. Plus I'd really quite like a pair of crystal green glasses. My glasses at the moment are crystal grey and the pair I'm looking at at work are crystal purple. I always seem to be drawn to the crystal frames (i.e. translucent plastic) and I have no idea why!

Anyway, hope you enjoy the list and I will type up my window posts now that my latest window is in and I've taken some photos. For now, on my day off, I have some work work to do and a cardigan to search for because I don't know where you are, but it's cold, windy and trying to snow here at the moment. So a nice day all round.

Monday Mood Board: Rust & Green

Row 1:

Row 2:

Untitled by Gemma Booth via Pinterest

Green and rusty, burnt orange colours, difficult to pull off, but excellent when done right.

I find it funny how much I love colour and that I end up rarely using it in my work. Anyway, green to ease us away from yellow.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend and didn't get too drenched during the epic downpour today. Fingers crossed tomorrow will at least be slightly more summery!

Monday Mood Board: Rainbows

Row 1: From inside a rainbow... by Joshua Liberman, Jónsi by Lilja Birgisdóttir
Row 2: Rainbow Umbrella #5 by Yein~ , Chihuly 8 by Andi Wolfe

Inspired by my day at the Scottish Bead Fair 2010 on Sunday. So many wonderfully beautiful stones and beads, glass and plastic, natural and unnatural to be hand in every colour and finish imaginable. I spent way too much money but came away with a few ideas and some beautiful stones to play with.

My mum even bought me some glass rods so I can start teaching myself how to make lamp work beads or whatever my little brain can come up with. Very exciting. I've wanted to learn forever!

Shall post my purchases when I get a moment.

Grey days at the beach, I remember them fondly from holidays on the west coast of Scotland as a kid...why we went to the beach in the wind and the rain and sat freezing on the sand I'll never know.

Today I feel like a mood board of beautiful grey tones after watching Coco Before Chanel and scribbling in my sketchbook. Almost finished a new piece...or I would be, had I not cracked the lens I was drilling. Truly very annoying.

Incidentally I think I'm going to keep up the mood boards, they were the most fin and I really enjoy filling my flickr favourites with new found delights. We'll see what from last weeks post sticks and I'll start posting the back log I've been hoarding for weeks!
